For sea lovers, there are plenty of locations to choose from. The golden beaches of Alcamo Marina and Balestrate, the fishing harbour of Castellammare del Golfo and the “faraglioni” in Scopello are all just a short drive away. The natural reserve of “Lo Zingaro” that stretches out to the white sand beach of San Vito Lo Capo offers a wide range of landscapes and a radiant sea. A short ferry ride will take you to the Aegadian Islands – Levanzo, Favignana, Marettimo – and their wild and breathtaking underwater landscapes or to the small island of Mothia, an ancient Phoenician colony from the 8th century B.C.
A twenty minute drive on the motorway will take you to Palermo where the remains of Punic, Greek, Roman and Norman conquests still stand witness to the city's millenarian history: the Norman Palace, the Palatine Chapel, Santa Maria dello Spasimo church, which today is a symbol of the cultural rebirth of the city, the great baroque churches with their marble decor. The city streets are an ideal stage for the colourful markets of the oldest neighbourhoods: Vucciria, Capo and Ballarò.
And, what’s more: Teatro Massimo, one of the most important opera houses in Europe, Politeama, Favorita and Art Nouveau-style villas.
Monreale, with its Norman cathedral and numerous mosaics, is only a few minutes away from Palermo.
